Organic Wet Wipes: Quick and Easy
By now most of you have probably realised just how many nasty chemicals are in mainstream, big brand wet wipes we get from the supermarket. Considering what goes into things like Huggies Nappies, it is no real shock that what goes into store bought wet wipes is just as bad (sometimes even worse) for our little babies sensitive tooshies.
I thought every mummy could benefit from this quick, easy and organic (nasties free) baby wet wipes.
Before we continue, I know a lot of Mummy's may not have the time to even spare 5 minutes to make these so I have offered the pre-made solution for sale in our store.
Ingredients:
* 2 tablespoons coconut oil (unrefined organic and raw)
* 6-7 drops lavender oil
* 2 ½ tablespoons organic castile soap
* 4 ply paper towel or reusable bamboo towel
* 3 cups water
Method:
Cut your baby towel roll in half (cutting so you end up with 2 halves that look similar to toilet paper) using a serrated knife.
Decide if you are going to fold your wet wipes or keep the roll shape. If your keeping the roll shape remove the cardboard from the centre of the roll by gently peeling/folding it away from the towel (pictured example is of the completed wet wipe roll so you can see what I mean).
Boil water so that any bacteria or contaminants removed. Alternatively you can use distilled water, but I prefer to use the boiled method as this helps melt the coconut oil if it isn't in a liquid state before starting.
Add your coconut oil to the hot water and stir until completely combined. This may take a little bit of patience on your part.
Add your lavender oil. Now if you accidentally go over the 7 drops, don't panic you'll just have extra scented wipes.
Place your paper towel in a heat proof container and pour the solution into the container slowly, allowing the paper towel to absorb the solution. You may find you will not need to use the whole solution or you have excess in the container after the towels have finished absorbing.
Wait for the towels to cool and gently squeeze any excesses out by pushing down on the wipes (if folded) or by holding the roll and squeezing (if you have chosen to keep the roll shape).
I have also made a video with a step by step on how to make these wipes. I have posted the link below. You'll have to excuse the video, it is my first time.
And that's it, simple and quick, these will last you about 2 weeks before they begin to dry out. Let's face it though, when has a set of wet wipes lasted that long around babies? Never!
Forever Yours
